Johne's Disease Testing

Johnes disease testing is performed at the laboratories of Marshfield Food Safety in Marshfield, WI in coordination with the Veterinary Diagnostic Services Laboratories of the Marshfield Clinic. Using PCR to detect the genetic material (DNA) specific to Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis, this test can be completed in as few as eight hours and does not require further testing for confirmation.
**Typical time to result is two to three days**.
Marshfield Food Safety is accredited through the United States Department of Agriculture – National Veterinary Service Laboratory to perform Johne’s disease testing by both PCR and culture methods. Both methods have been approved by the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade Consumer Protection and can be used to classify herd status through the voluntary Wisconsin Johne’s Disease Management Market Program.
